Karate Man
Karate Man is the flagship minigame of the entire Rhythm Heaven series, dating back to Rhythm Tengoku (GBA) in 2006. It became such a defining experience that every game in the series since includes a Karate Man minigame of its own. You play Karate Joe, punching objects that fly at you in time with the music.
How it works
Objects — pots, soccer balls, rocks, and more — sail in from the right, and you hit a single action button to punch each one exactly on the beat. The original Tengoku version is the textbook example of the series' button-based design: a button punches in time, with clean on/off timing and no aiming. Later versions layer in kicks and combo sequences, but the core loop is always "listen, then punch on the beat."
Controls, timing and cues
Karate Man rewards your ears over your eyes — the incoming objects telegraph the rhythm, but the music is the true cue. To clear a Perfect Campaign run you must finish with zero misses, so internalize the song first in regular play until you can hum the pattern. Watch out for trick objects and tempo changes that break the steady stream; those are where streaks die. Because you only need to earn Superb once to make the game Perfect-eligible, grind the rank first, then attempt the Perfect when the campaign comes up.
