How Multiplayer Plays
The multiplayer games keep the same audio-first timing as the solo games, but tune it for a group. Competitive games usually come down to who lands the cleaner tap. In Cake Wait, the game measures how close each player hits the A button to the perfect moment — closest to 0.00 seconds takes the cake. Co-op games like Ninja Bodyguard instead ask everyone to stay locked to the same beat together, so a single off-tempo player throws off the whole group.
Groove ships with more than 80 solo games and more than 30 multiplayer games across cooperative and competitive modes — the largest collection in the franchise. The complete multiplayer lineup hasn't been fully detailed yet; Cake Wait and Ninja Bodyguard are confirmed examples shown ahead of launch.
Do You Need Nintendo Switch Online?
The headline multiplayer is local — four players on one Switch needs no membership. Some pre-launch listings note that Nintendo Switch Online may be required for multiplayer where online play is involved.
